KB12571: How to hide the ‘Metrics’ column from a Report Services document grid in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

SUMMARY:
This "How to" technical note describes a way to hide the metrics columns from a document grid in Strategy 10.x.
Strategy Desktop 8.x reports display the 'Metrics' column on the report grids by default. When these reports are used in a Report Services document, the same 'Metrics' column is displayed, as shown below:

To hide this column, the user must hide the 'Metrics' column on the base report first, and then bring the report onto the document with formatting preserved. Follow the steps below:

  • On the base report, ensure that the Grid -> Automatic Column Widths option is inactive.
  • Click on Grid -> Options.
  • Select 'Fixed column widths' and select 'Metrics' from the drop down menu.
  • Set the width to 0 pixels, as shown below:

  • Re-execute the report. The 'Metrics' column should no longer appear, as shown below:

  • Add the report to a new Report Services document as a dataset.
  • Hold the Shift button and drag the report into the Detail Header section. This will preserve the report formatting. The resultant document will not display the 'Metrics' column, as shown below:
