KB12743: Can two different versions of MicroStrategy Developer exist on the same machine?

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This article explains why only one MicroStrategy Developer version can be installed on a machine

There can only be one Strategy Developer version installed per operating system for the following reasons:

  1. Only one Strategy Common Files location can be specified per machine and the common files change with each release.
  2. The registry structure used for Strategy products only supports one definition of Strategy Developer.
  3. It is not possible to have, for example, Strategy Developer 10.6 installed in c:\MSTR106, and Strategy Developer 10.7 in c:\MSTR107.
  4. The install routine will not allow users to upgrade only a subset of the products on the machine as it enforces that all products on the machine are the same version, primarily due to the use of shared/common files.
