KB12929: How to create a MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server environment for testing an upgrade to MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server 9.x

The following are pre-requisites and steps describing how to create a Strategy Narrowcast Server environment for testing an upgrade to Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x.
NOTE: This Document makes use of the Copy Repository Tool.
 
PRE-REQUISITES:

• Strategy Intelligence Server and metadata already upgraded to version 9.x.
• Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x (without the Tutorial Configuration) has been installed on a test machine.

 
STEPS:
When the above pre-requisites are met, follow the steps below to create a test environment on which to test a Strategy Narrowcast Server upgrade:

1. Create a copy of the existing production system repositories
   
• Use the Repository Copier Tool on the upgraded Strategy Narrowcast Server test machine to create this copy (as described in the Strategy Knowledge Base document KB12409: Copy Repository Tool functionality in Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x).
2. In the copy, modify the Information Source locations to point to the upgraded Strategy Intelligence Server.
   
• Register this system on a non-upgraded machine and modify the Information Source locations. This is needed since the upgrade process will attempt to contact the system's Information Sources.
3. Upgrade the copy
   
• Register this system on the upgraded Strategy Narrowcast Server test machine and upgrade it.
4. Configure the upgraded copy to use the desired upgraded Strategy machines as Distribution Manager, Execution Engine, etc.
   
• A new Portal Repository needs to be created to use the Subscription Portal.
5. Test the upgraded Strategy Narrowcast Server functionality.
