What is an Oracle cube?
Oracle OLAP is an add-on option to the Oracle Database. An Oracle OLAP cube is a logical organization of multidimensional data. The edges of the cube contain dimension members, and the body of the cube contains measure values. For example, sales data can be organized into a cube whose edges contain values from the time, product, and customer dimensions and whose body contains values from the volume sales and dollar sales measures.
How does Strategy OLAP Services use Intelligent Cubes?
With OLAP Services, Strategy places analytic flexibility into the hands of business users allowing them to create and modify their own reports, create new calculations from existing metrics, or apply filter conditions to the report. With OLAP Services, accessing Intelligent Cubes for such fast OLAP analysis does not require processing on the data warehouse or IT management.
Can Strategy use Oracle cubes?
Although Oracle OLAP cubes are accessed through SQL extensions (it does not provide an MDX interface to access the cubes), it is possible for Strategy to interact with Oracle OLAP cubes using Freeform SQL, Logical Views, or Database Views. With Oracle 11g, the integration with Oracle OLAP Cubes is transparent to Strategy, because now cubes can be defined as Materialized Views (MV) and Oracle will rewrite SQL queries to these MV.
