How to determine the version of a MicroStrategy project

There are two methods of determining a Project's version:

  • Using the MDUpdateUtil tool
    • Access MDUpdateUtil.exe. The utility is found under \Program Files\Common Files\Strategy.
    • Select the desired Project Source (Data Source) and click on Next, as shown below:

    • Upon clicking Next, the following window shows the versions of the projects found in the metadata. The image below shows that the projects are of version 8.0.0:

  • WARNING:
In this scenario the MDUpdateUtil tool is used ONLY TO VIEW a project's version. After finding out the version, quit the tool.

  • Viewing Version Update History Folder
    • Enable the "Hidden Objects" by going to Tools ->Preferences ->Browsing Options as seen below:

    • Connect to the project and browse to the 'Version Update History' folder.
    • Find the folder with the highest leading number. In the following image, the folder with the highest leading number is highlighted and it shows that the Strategy Tutorial Project is a version 8.0.0 project:
