How to avoid the browser URL limit when passing prompt answers from a document to a report in MicroStrategy Developer and Web 9.x

Strategy Developer and Web 9.x have the ability to pass all prompt answers from a document to a report if the report contains the same prompt as the document.

In order to perform this customization, users will need to set promptsAnswerXML={&PROMPTXML} in the URL that calls the report. {&PROMPTXML} is an auto-text code available from the Document Editor in Strategy Developer 9.x that is automatically converted at runtime to an XML string representing the prompt answers selected by the user. Refer to the Strategy Document Creation Guide for further details.

However, if the total of selected answers is high, it could reach the maximum number of characters allowed by the browser in the URL. This limit will defer depending on the browser used by Strategy Web 9.x.

To avoid the browser limitation, users can work with originMessageID={&DOCUMENTMESSAGEID} instead of promptsAnswerXML.

{&DOCUMENTMESSAGEID} is an auto-text code available from the Document Editor in Strategy Developer 9.x that is automatically converted at runtime to a string representing the message ID of this document instance. Passing a report or document's message ID as a value for the 'originMessageID' indicates to the target report or document that it should get the collection of prompt answers from the report or document instance specified.
