SYMPTOM:
When using DB2 as the warehouse database, report execution fails with the following error message:
Status: Execution failed. Error: SQL Generation Complete QueryEngine encountered error: Execute Query failed. Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. Unknown error: SQLCODE -973 Error in Process method of Component: QueryEngineServer, Project , Job 40433, Error Code= -2147212544.
Changing the database heap size as mentioned in the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note has no effect:
KB2300-000-0006 - Report execution fails and users receive error 'SQL Error when executing a report. ]Unknown error: SQLCODE -973' when attempting to execute a report .
CAUSE:
One possible cause for this error is that IBM DB2 database configuration parameter MAX_APPLS was set to automatic. According to IBM, this parameter specifies the maximum number of concurrent applications that can be connected (both local and remote) to a database. Each application that attaches to a database causes some private memory to be allocated; so a large number of concurrent applications will use more memory.
ACTION:
Change the MAX_APPLS IBM DB2 parameter from automatic to an appropriate value. Contact the database administrator to perform this action.
