Strategy provides server installation deactivation processes from the uninstall routines when removing a Strategy server product, and from the License Administration tab in the Strategy License Manager utility. Deactivating server installations produces a deactivation file (deactivate.txt), which contains a deactivation code. This code is used to notify Strategy that the server installation has been deactivated. This file can be found in the following folders:
- Windows (default): C:\Program Files\Common Files\Strategy
- UNIX and Linux: $HOME_PATH
Deactivating server installations can be done automatically in one step if the server installation is connected to the Internet, or manually in a two-step process if notifying Strategy from another machine.
- Select the deactivation and automatic notification via the Internet option
This option appears when uninstalling any server product and in the License Administration tab in Strategy License Manager on the target machine. When selecting deactivation with automatic notification, an encrypted copy of the deactivation file is sent to Strategy, which deactivates the server installation and registers the changes to the server installation. This process is normally completed in less than one minute.
- Select the deactivation and Manual Notification via the Internet option
This option appears when uninstalling any server product and in the License Administration tab in Strategy License Manager on the target machine. When selecting deactivation with manual notification, the server installation is deactivated and the deactivation file, (deactivate.txt), is generated. Copy the deactivation file to a machine that has access to the Internet. Log on to https://licensing.Strategy.com with a Technical Support Liaison user login or the login provided with the license key. Fill in the deactivation information in the spaces provided. The deactivation code is in the deactivation file. An email with the deactivation code will be sent to the email addresses provided. It is advisable to print the email and save it for future reference.
NOTE: If you do not have a deactivation code and need to deactivate a server installation, contact Strategy Technical Support.
