KB13490: When an attribute that is using HTML as ‘Form Format Type’ is moved to page-by in a report in MicroStrategy Web, the HTML tags are shown

When an attribute that is using HTML as ‘Form Format Type’ is moved to page-by in a report in MicroStrategy Web, the HTML tags are shown

SYMPTOM:
When an attribute that is using HTML as 'Form Format Type' is moved to page-by in a report in Strategy Web 8.x, the HTML tags are shown.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue using the Strategy Tutorial project:

  • Create a new form for the Year attribute and use the following Form Expression:
    1. ApplySimple("Case when #0 = 2003 Then '<B>' + cast(#1 as varchar) + '</B>' When #0 = 2004 Then '<B>' + cast( #1 as varchar) + '</B>' ELSE '<IMG height=0 width=20 border=0>' + cast(#1 as varchar) End ", , )
  • Set 'Form format' to Type = HTML Tag and set 'Form category' as 'None', as shown in the image below:

  • Execute a report using the newly created attribute. Notice that the HTML tags display properly when the attribute is in grid mode, as shown below:

  • However, when the Year attribute is moved to page-by, the HTML tags are displayed as plain text instead, as shown below:
ka04W000000OclOQAS_0EM4400000028vT.jpeg

CAUSE:
The page-by list box is comprised of an HTML 'select' tag and the tag does not permit HTML code. Any HTML code in the 'select' tag will be represented as plain text.

ACTION:
A request has been logged to strip the HTML tags when an attribute is moved to page-by. Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on the status of this issue.

WORKAROUND:
Keep the ID form along with Description form in the report grid, as shown below:

With the ID form in the report grid, moving the attribute to the page-by will not cause this issue, as shown below:
