It is necessary to activate server installations within 30 days after installation. Server activation is performed in Strategy License Manager, which may be accessed from the Start menu in Windows environments and through the Strategy Control Center in UNIX environments for Strategy Intelligence Server Universal. Alternately, administrators can launch Strategy License Manager from the UNIX command line with the following commands:
cd /bin
mstrlicmgr
This will open a graphical interface functionally identical to the Windows License Manager. To use this interface, administrators must have access to a UNIX windowing system.
If no UNIX windowing environment is available, Strategy License Manager may be run in console (text only) mode as follow
mstrlicmgr -console
All functions related to server activation may be accessed in console mode. License compliance audit reports may also be generated in console mode, but no other license administration tasks may be performed in the console.
The following console transcript illustrates how a Strategy Intelligence Server installation may be activated using console mode. Some portions are omitted for the sake of concision. User input is highlighted in red.
Two stages of activation are needed: requesting an activation code, followed by applying the code to the machine. The first portion of the transcript illustrates requesting the activation code.
