KB13608: How to obtain information on what machines users are using to connect to MicroStrategy and information on session analysis using MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager

Community Admin

• Strategy

With Strategy Enterprise Manager, users can execute various out-of-the-box reports to get detailed information on user session analysis, but there is no pre-existing report in the Enterprise Manager project that provides information on what client machine users are connecting from.

Users can create a report that will provide this information. To do this, create a new report and add the following attributes in the rows:

  • User
  • Day
  • Connection Source
  • Client Machine

Add the following metrics in the columns:

  • Number of Sessions
  • Connection Duration hh:mm:ss
  • Min Connection Duration hh:mm:ss
  • First Connect Timestamp
  • First Disconnect Timestamp
  • Last Connect Timestamp
  • Last Disconnect Timestamp

It is advisable to use filters on the attributes User and Day to limit the amount of data queried and for performance.
When executed, the report will appear as follows. (Some metrics are omitted from this image as the display is wide.)

This report will provide information about a user on a particular day connected to Strategy through Strategy Developer or Web and more information on the client machine used. Information on the user's sessions can also be obtained from this report.
