KB13703: How to use a regular image control with a dynamic path in a Report Services document in MicroStrategy Desktop 9.x & 10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

It is possible to use a regular image control with a dynamic path in a Report Services document in Strategy Desktop 9.x & 10.x.

To do this, follow the steps below in the Strategy Tutorial project:

  1. Name three images after the elements of 'Region', e.g. 'Mid-Atlantic.jpg', 'Southeast.jpg', and 'Northeast.jpg'.
  2. Copy all the three images in the following folders:
    • 9.4.1 - Desktop/Images, Web/Images, and Intelligence Server/Images
    • 10.x - Developer/Images, Web//Images, and Intelligence Server/imagesCreate a report with Region and Revenue and save it.
  3. Create a Report Services document and add the report created in previous step as the dataset.
  4. Add Region and Revenue to the Detail section of the document.
  5. Add an image to the document in the detail section next to Region and set the path to ‘Images\{Region}.jpg’ and save the document, as shown below:

  • Execute the document in PDF view. Notice that the image will appear next to the particular attribute value for the three images that were saved. All the others will appear as broken images. In Strategy Web 8.x, the images will appear as in Strategy Desktop 8.x, as shown below:

  • To hide the attribute name and only show the image, simply remove Region from the Detail section, as shown below:
