KB13796: Integrated Windows authentication does not work on the client machine but does work on the Web Server machine in MicroStrategy Web 9.x

Community Admin

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
Users on client machines cannot log into Strategy Web 9.x using a Windows NT authentication even after the Strategy Server Administrator has linked the Windows user account to the corresponding Strategy Server user. The user can login on the Web Server machine. There is a proxy connection between the client machine and the Web Server machine.

CAUSE:
Windows NT authentication may not work over proxy connections if the proxy doesn't maintain connections with the web server.

ACTION:
Consult the following Microsoft documentation regarding Integrated Windows Authentication for more information on why Internet Information Services (IIS) does not support Windows NT authentication through proxy servers and what workarounds are available (e.g. Digest authentication):

Windows 2003
