KB13939: Datamart reports that create tables on a Microsoft Access database located in a file server fail in 3-tier connection with an error in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server 9.x on Windows

When executing a datamart report that creates tables on a Microsoft Access database located in a file server from a 3-tier connection, it fails with the following error: [Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.

SYMPTOM
When executing a datamart report that creates tables on a Microsoft Access database located in a file server from a 3-tier connection, it fails with the following error:

[Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.

However, the datamart report does not fail when executed from a 2-tier environment.

CAUSE
The above error appears to occur when a drive is mapped from the Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x Windows machine to the file server containing the Access database and is used while creating a DSN to the Microsoft Access file.

ACTION
While setting up the Microsoft Access ODBC DSN to the Microsoft Access file in the file server, instead of browsing to the mapped drive and folder containing the Microsoft Access .mdb file, use the entire UNC path (\\machine name\folder name\file name) as shown in the image below. Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x must also be running under a network account that has privileges to the file server. The Local System account cannot be used.
