SYMPTOM:
Metadata operations in the Strategy Configuration Wizard in a Strategy Intelligence Server Universal environment, running on a certified UNIX operating system, fail with the following error:

User authentication failed: MSIXML: Server name not initialized
These operations may include:
CAUSE:
This issue may be caused by an incorrect network configuration in the Strategy Intelligence Server machine's hosts file. This file is universally located at /etc/hosts and contains a list of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses alongside the hostname(s) that should map onto each address. Typically it must contain at least one entry identifying the local host:
127.0.0.1 loopback localhost
When the Strategy Configuration Wizard need to access, create, or modify metadata objects, in UNIX environments it must launch a special 'instance' of Strategy Intelligence Server called DUMMYMDT. This is necessary because in UNIX, only the Strategy Intelligence Server executable contains the components that manage metadata objects. This server must communicate with Strategy Configuration Wizard running on the local machine over the TCP/IP network protocol. This connection is established using the host machine's name, rather than the generic 'localhost' name.
If the local machine's name is not present in the hosts file, the connection could fail and the above error will occur. It may also be the case in this scenario that pinging the local machine name will also fail, e.g., ping localmachine, confirming the suspicion that the machine is not reachable by name.
ACTION:
Edit the /etc/hosts file using any text editor such as vi, emacs or pico to include a line in the following form:
<tab>
For example:
255.255.34.12 FakeISBox
NOTE: It may require root privileges to edit the hosts file. If the root password is not available, users with administrative privileges may temporarily assume root privileges using the sudo command, e.g., sudo vi /etc/hosts
