SYMPTOMS:
No projects or incomplete project list is displayed to users even though all Strategy Intelligence Servers are running and are configured to automatically connect to Strategy Web 9.x. Depending on the particular Strategy Web deployment, users may see the problem under any of the following scenarios:
- The first user who logs into Strategy Web 9.x after application server restart sees no projects displayed. However, Strategy Intelligence Server set to automatically connect to Strategy Web shows as connected in the Admininistrator page. Once the administrator accessed the Administrator page, the issue is temporarily resolved. Alternatively, all projects are displayed if the user hits the browser Refresh button.
- In some environments, the same symptom is present only after the Strategy Intelligence Server service is restarted.
- In Strategy Web deployments on IIS, users may encounter this issue sporadically at different times of day, especially if the 'Idle Timeout' on StrategyWebPool is set to 20 minutes (default Application Pool setting).
- In Strategy Web deployments that automatically connect to multiple Strategy Intelligence Servers, users may see incomplete list of projects instead empty projects page.
CAUSE:
This issue can happen if the maxServerAutoConnectionWaitTime value in the sys_defaults.xml file is set too low.
ACTION:
Perform the steps below to adjust this parameter:
- Open the sys_defaults.xml file found in the WEB-INF\xml directory.
- Search for the following:
<pr des="" n="maxServerAutoConnectionWaitTime" scp="system" v="5000"/>
NOTE: The value 5000 represents the maximum time in milliseconds for how long the thread processing page request will wait for the background thread to finish connecting Strategy Intelligence Servers set to be automatically connected. This value can be further increased to a higher value like 20000, for example.
- Restart application server.
