KB13965: What are the minimum privileges that a user needs to create security filters in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.1 and 10.x?

What are the minimum privileges that a user needs to create security filters in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.1 and 10.x?

If the Administrator wants to create a user that is only allowed to create security filters in Strategy Developer 9.4.1 and 10.x, the minimum privileges that the Administrator would need to grant to the user are:

  1. Create Application Objects
  2. Use Report Filter Editor
  3. Use Security Filter manager

To grant these privileges, follow the steps below:

  1. Login to Strategy Desktop 8.x as Administrator and create a new user.
  2. In the User editor, select the 'Project Access' tab, and assign the following privileges:
    • 'Create Application objects' under Common Privileges
    • 'Use report filter editor' under Desktop Designer
    • 'Use security filter manager' under Administration

Granting the 'Use security filter manager' privilege will allow the user to create security filters and also to apply them.

The Administrator may also need to change the Access Control List of the folders where the user will be storing the security filters to give the new user permission to modify it.
