Logical table does not appear in the available source tables in the Fact Editor when creating a new fact in MicroStrategy Desktop 9.x

SYMPTOM:
When users create a new logical view table which contains the same column as an existing table, it does not appear in the available source tables in the Fact Editor in Strategy Desktop 9.x.

STEP TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue in the Strategy Tutorial project:

  • Create a new logical table. In the Table Editor, expand the existing table 'CITY_CTR_SLS' and notice the column name 'TOT_DOLLAR_SALES.'
  • Click Add and type in 'TOT_DOLLAR_SALES' as the Column Object name, select Real for the Data Type, and type in the SQL statement shown below:

  •
    select a.TOT_DOLLAR_SALES,
  • Save and close the logical table as 'New CITY_CTR_SLS.'
  • Select to create a new logical table. In the Table Editor, click to expand the existing table 'CITY_CTR_SLS.'
  • Drag and drop the column 'TOT_DOLLAR_SALES' to create a new column, and type in the SQL statement shown below:
ka02R000000kXzcQAE_0EM440000002FNj.jpeg
  •
    select a.TOT_DOLLAR_SALES
  • Save and close the logical table as 'Test CITY_CTR_SLS' and update the schema.
  • Select to create a new fact. In the Fact Editor, using 'CITY_CTR_SLS' as the source table, double-click the column 'TOT_DOLLAR_SALES' to create the fact expression shown below and click OK:

  • Notice in the list of source tables that 'CITY_CTR_SLS' and 'Test CITY_CTR_SLS' tables are available. 'New CITY_CTR_SLS' table is not shown in this list, as shown below:

CAUSE:
This is working as designed. If the column name is added manually via typing, it will have a different ID than the original column.

ACTION:
Select the desired column from the existing tables in the Warehouse Catalog, and drag it over to the Column Object.
