Strategy Server Activation is a licensing technology that ensures that installations of Strategy server products are authentic and have been legitimately licensed. Server Activation registers each Server Installation with Strategy and locks the installation to a specific machine. Strategy Server Activation is required under the following circumstances:
- Every time a server product is installed, including major release upgrades
- When a server product is added to an existing server installation
- When a server product is un-installed and one or more server products still remain
- When a license update occurs that does not require un-installing:
- Adding more capacity to a server product
- Adding more options to a server product
- Changing the processor affinity of a server product
- If the unique machine identifier changes:
- Windows - Windows Systems UUID
- Linux - Network Ethernet Card MAC Address
- Solaris - Host ID
- AIX - Machine ID
