How to grant access to a shared folder so the Web users can save reports but not overwrite existing reports in MicroStrategy Web.

The administrator user may want to set up a shared folder for the Web users to be able to view/execute existing reports and save copied or new reports but not allow the Web users to overwrite existing reports. The administrator should follow the steps below to set up the ACL (Access Control List) for the shared folder to achieve this requirement:

  1. In Strategy Desktop 9.x, right-click on the shared folder (this example uses Public Objects/Reports/Case Exercise) and select Properties.
  2. Go to the Security tab and under permissions there will be the Object column and the Children column. Add the user or user group to the list (this example uses the Web user 'twang'.) For the Object column select the Modify permission, and for the Children column select Custom and Deny Write permission.
  3. Check the 'Apply changes in permissions to all children objects'.
