KB14609: What is the 'Attribute Form Selection Option for Intermediate Pass' VLDB property in MicroStrategy 9.x

• Strategy

For Strategy reports that generate multi-pass SQL with temporary tables, it is sometimes desired that that description form of an attribute is also selected in the temp table along with the ID form. This can be achieved by turning on the 'Attribute Form Selection Option for Intermediate Pass' VLDB setting in Strategy Intelligence Server, which can be found under VLDB Properties -> Select/Insert, as shown below:

The report SQL with the VLDB setting set to 'Select ID form only' will display as shown below:

The report SQL with the VLDB setting set to "Select ID and other forms if they are on the template and already available in existing join tree" below:

The description form is not selected by default in the intermediate passes and is usually selected in the final pass, as it is primarily used for display purposes. Note also that as the VLDB setting states, the Description form should be available in the existing join path of the ID form, i.e. the engine will not make additional joins to get the Description form in the temp table.
