KB14653: Threshold images do not appear in MicroStrategy Web

Article outlines why threshold images do not appear in MicroStrategy Web.

SYMPTOM:
A user creates a threshold on a report the replaces the metric with an image. The image is set relative to the HTML document directory. The image appears correctly when executing the report on an HTML document, but the images fail to appear in Strategy Web 8.1.x.

CAUSE:
When a threshold image is set to a relative path from the HTML documents directory, it is interpreted differently by the web server than it is by the Strategy Intelligence Server. The path entered in the threshold definition is relative and must have a place to start. Strategy Intelligence Server starts in the HTML documents directory as defined in the project configuration. The Strategy Web  application, however, must set the path relative to something accessible to the application. The HTML documents directory is outside of the web application scope, so the application's root directory is used as the starting point.

ACTION:
Place a copy of the image on the web server. Use the same relative path, but instead of using the HTML documents directory as the reference point, start in Strategy\Web ASPx\asp\. For Strategy Web Universal  the root directory is Strategy/servlet/, which is not an actual directory. To get around this, the threshold can either be defined as a network share or web address, or else the relative path can begin with './' in order to direct it to an actual location. The thresholds will display correctly.
