KB14709: The ‘No data returned’ custom message in the Advanced Report definition section of the Project Configuration is not displayed when no data is returned for a report displayed in graph mode in MicroStrategy Developer and Web 9.x

SYMPTOM:
When no data is returned for a report that is displayed in graph mode, the custom message created in the Advanced Report Definition section of the Project Configuration is not displayed in Strategy Developer and Web 9.x. Instead, a warning message is displayed, as shown below:
 

 
There is not enough data to support the graph type you have chosen.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue in the Strategy Tutorial project:

• Go to Project Configuration -> Report Definition -> Advanced section and enter a custom message in the 'No data returned' section, as shown below:
  

• Now, create a report in Strategy Developer 9.x that returns no data and execute the report in grid mode. The custom message entered above is displayed.
• Now, view the report in graph mode and instead of the custom message, the warning message shown above is displayed.
• If the 'Switch to the grid mode' setting is selected, then the custom message is displayed.
• Similarly, in Strategy Web 9.x, a Strategy generated message is displayed when viewing the report in graph mode, as shown below:
  

CAUSE:
This is currently working as designed in Strategy Developer and Web 9.x. An enhancement request has been logged in order to display the custom message even when the report is displayed in graph mode.
