KB15223: Users cannot find and select certain attributes to define a joint element list filter in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

When trying to define a joint element list filter, users cannot find certain attributes in the 'Available attributes' list to define the filter in MicroStrategy Developer.

SYMPTOM:
When trying to define a joint element list filter, users cannot find certain attributes in the 'Available attributes' list to define the filter in Strategy Developer. In the screenshot below, the attribute is not an available attribute for the joint element list definition.

CAUSE:
There are two potential causes to issue:

  1. The user may not have the View permission for the attributes.
  2. The attributes are not in the Attributes folder under the Schema Objects folder.

ACTION:
To address cause number one, do the following:

  1. In Strategy Developer, right-click on the attribute and select Properties.
  2. Click on the Security tab.
  3. Make sure the user or the user group has the View permission. If not, have the administrator grant this permission.

To address cause number two, the attribute needs to be relocated to the Strategy default Attributes folder.

An enhancement request has been submitted to Strategy Technology to give users the ability to search for attributes outside the Attributes folder. Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.
