KB15296: 'The table or view does not exist' while executing reports just after modifying the 'SCHEMA’S OWNER' via Warehouse Catalog and updating the schema in MicroStrategy Developer 2021.

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This article describes an error that occurs after changing the schema owner via MicroStrategy Warehouse Catalog, in MicroStrategy Developer 2021.

SYMPTOM:
The schema owner was altered by a user via the Strategy Warehouse Catalog. Then both the Warehouse Catalog and the schema are updated. As a result, some reports based on logical tables no longer work and an error message notifying the user that the table or view does not exist appears in Strategy Developer.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue:

  • Open the Warehouse Catalog.
  • Access the menu Options, as shown below:

  • Change the owner used to retrieve a list of tables available in the database.
  • View the SQL Statement used to retrieve the list of available tables from the Warehouse Catalog, as shown below. The owner name is changed:

  • Update the schema.
  • Execute the reports which are pointing to the logical table and the following error occurs:
ka0PW0000000zgDYAQ_0EM440000002FJ5.jpeg
  •

    Status: Initialization Failed

Error: QueryEngine encountered error: Execute Query failed. Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. ORA-00942: table or view does not exist

CAUSE:
The logical tables do not reflect the alterations automatically done via the Warehouse Catalog.

ACTION:
Edit each logical table and add the new owner manually.

NOTE: It is possible to use more than one database owner in order to add to schema tables from a different database owner. If so, Strategy will generate the SQL statement based on tables from all database owners that are included in the SQL statement used to retrieve the list of available tables from the Warehouse Catalog:
