KB15355: 'Could not update; currently locked by user ‘admin' ' error occurs while updating Microsoft Access database in MicroStrategy Developer

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This article outlines why the error 'Could not update; currently locked by user ‘admin' ' occurs whilst writing to a metadata in Microsoft Access using MicroStrategy Developer.

SYMPTOM:
As a result of running multiple reports simultaneously from within Strategy Developer against a Microsoft Access database (test only environment), essentially updating different tables within the database, the following error is generated:

(Index out of rangeQueryEngine encountered error: Execute Query failed. Deadlocked. Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. Could not update; currently locked by user `admin` on machine `BVHEDSS1`.Error in
Process method of Component: QueryEngineServer, Project BVHE - UE, Job 2247, Error Code= 2147212544.)
CAUSE:
This is working as designed. Even though Microsoft Access database is being updated by Strategy, this is strictly the behavior of Microsoft Access. One possible reason for this error message could be that another use has the database file open while the tables are being updated.
