KB15357: Unable to define the order in which a group of reports in a scheduled batch are run sequentially (one report is made dependent on the successful completion of the prior ones) in MicroStrategy Developer

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

Users would like to automatically execute reports sequentially within a Report Services document.

SYMPTOM:
There is a Report Services document with three reports as datasets in Strategy Developer:

  • Report 1: updates/creates a datamart.
  • Report 2: updates/creates another datamart
  • Report 3: is built off the datamart tables that Report 1 and Report 2 update

Currently, users are unable to run the above reports sequentially. In other words, the users wish to execute the report services document beginning with the execution of Report 1. When Report 1 is finished executing, then Report 2 should execute, and when Report 2 finishes, have Report 3 execute.

A Report Services document is simply an example of a container object for reports. In general, users wish to see a way to execute a series of reports in a group in a scheduled batch where one report is dependent on the completion of the prior ones.

ACTION:
An enhancement has been logged for this request.  Strategy will post updates as soon as they are available.

WORKAROUND:
Create multiple schedules and schedule each report in a different schedule.
