This article describes the steps to change the default JRE version used by MicroStrategy Web, Web Services and Mobile running on IIS.

By default, Strategy Web, Web Services and Mobile ASP running on IIS come with a default JRE installation. It is possible to use a different or newer JRE if needed as long as the JRE is certified and supported with the corresponding version of the Strategy product installed on the machine. Follow the instructions below to change the version of JRE used by Strategy Web, Web Services and Mobile:

  1. First download a and install a Strategy certified version of the JRE:
  2. Open the registry by clicking on Start > Run and type the command 'regedit'.
  3. Navigate to the following location in the registry (for Windows 64-bit): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MicroStrategy\JNI Bridge 64\Configuration
  4. On the right side of the screen, find the key named 'JavaVM Path' and change it to point to the jvm.dll under the JRE installation directory. For example, the following default location: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\MicroStrategy\JRE\180_77\Win64\bin\server\jvm.dll"

  • Restart Microsoft IIS for the registry changes to take effect.
  • For Strategy Web only, launch Strategy Web and then click on the 'About Strategy' link to ensure that the correct JRE version is utilized, as shown below:

NOTE: The instructions above are specific for users using Strategy Web, Web Services and Mobile running on Microsoft IIS. For Strategy Web Universal, Web Services Universal and Mobile Universal running on J2EE web application servers, refer to the documentation of the specific application server being used for instructions on how to change the JRE.
