KB15547: What is the M8PrcSvr Process and what is its significance?

Community Admin

• Strategy

The M8PrcSvr process is the multi-process manager component process. This is specific to UNIX and manages the creation and deletion of the M8MulPrc processes. This extra component is used in UNIX as it makes the memory usage and synchronization between Strategy Intelligence Server  and the M8MulPrc processes more efficient.

The M8MulPrc processes are the regular processes that retrieve data from the database and are spawned from the M8PrcSvr process. In Strategy version 9.4.x, the M8MulPrc processes are 32 bit processes on AIX, Solaris and Linux platforms, and 64 bit on HP-UX.  In Strategy version 10.x, the M8MulPrc processes are 64 bit processes on AIX, Solaris, HP-UX and Linux platforms.
