Users attempt to run a report in MicroStrategy Desktop against Sybase IQ and an error may occur.

SYMPTOM:

Users attempt to run a report in Strategy Desktop 10.x against Sybase IQ and the following error occurs:

QueryEngine encountered error: Fetch failed. Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExtendedFetch. When Force_No_Scroll_Cursors = ON, scrolling cursor operations are not supported by Sybase IQ.
The issue occurs only when the Sybase IQ database connection is set to 'Use Extended Fetch' in Strategy Desktop. This setting is located at Configuration Manager > Database Instance > Database Connection > Advanced. Refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note for more details regarding the enabling the use of Extended Fetch in Strategy:

KB8750 - How to enable the use of Extended Fetch in Strategy Intelligence Server

CAUSE:

The Extended Fetch functionality is not supported by Sybase IQ when the database setting Force_No_Scroll_Cursors is set to ON. Sybase IQ normally recommends that the Force_No_Scroll_Cursors setting be turned on but in order to use Extended Fetch the value has to be changed to OFF.

ACTION:

To use Extended Fetch functionality against Sybase IQ, it is recommended to change the Force_No_Scroll_Cursors to OFF

The third-party product(s) discussed in this technical note is manufactured by vendors independent of Strategy. Strategy makes no warranty, express, implied or otherwise, regarding this product, including its performance or reliability.
