KB15721: Processor 0 is grayed out when attempting to enable Processor Affinity on MicroStrategy Intelligence Server Universal running on HP-UX operating system

• Strategy

As part of the installation process and the software compliance program, when Strategy Intelligence Server Universal Edition is licensed based on CPUs, the user is required to input the number of processors that will be used by Strategy Intelligence Server on that machine. The ability to deploy Strategy Intelligence Server on a subset of the total number of physical CPUs on a given machine is called Processor Affinity.

Processor Affinity is set through Strategy Service Manager > Options > Intelligence Server Options. For Strategy Intelligence Server Universal running on HP-UX, Processor 0 is grayed out as shown in the image below:

This is by design. In HP-UX, Processor 0 is always assigned to the default processor set (PSET 0), and cannot be reassigned to any other user-created processor set. Strategy Intelligence Server needs to create processor sets on HP-UX to implement Processor Affinity except for the following two situations:

  • One processor is used
  • All processors are used
