C:\Program Files\MicroStrategy\Office\moidbshm.dll
Flex Builder cannot locate the required version of the Flash Player. You may need to install Flash Player 9.0 or reinstall Flex Builder.
Installed Flash Player version: 8,1,0,148
Required Version: 9,0,0,0
Do you still want to launch the application?

CAUSE:
After refreshing or deleting a document that is displayed in Flash mode in a Microsoft Excel workbook, an exception occurs when you close the workbook. Adobe and Microsoft have confirmed this there is a problem in the interaction between the Flash Player and Excel. To resolve the problem, Microsoft developed a 'shim' or wrapper for Strategy Office 8.1.x. The shim is the file moidbshm.dll that is displayed in the warning message. When the Flash Player ActiveX control is referenced, it's actually the shim that is referenced and the shim controls the Flash Player's reference counting. However, this causes Flex Builder to get the version number from moidbshm.dll instead of the Flash Player.

ACTION:
The warning message that Flex Builder displays is harmless and can be ignored by clicking the 'Yes' button in the warning dialog box.

WORKAROUND:
If Flash mode documents will not be displayed in Microsoft Excel, the Strategy shim file (moidbshm.dll) can be unregistered.
To unregister the Strategy shim file, complete the following steps:

  1. Determine the installation path for Strategy Office 8.1.x. By default it is C:\Program Files\MicroStrategy\Office.
  2. Click the Start button.
  3. Select Run from the Start menu.
  4. In the Open textbox, type 'cmd' and click the OK button to open a command window.
  5. In the command window, enter regsvr32 /u "<Strategy Office installation path>/moidbshm.dll" and hit Enter.

If the following error occurs, the user does not have the proper privileges to unregister moidbshm.dll. Only a member of the Administrators group for the computer can unregister dlls.

Alternatively, the Flex Compiler options for the project can be changed so that it does not generate an HTML wrapper file. If this configuration option is disabled, then Flex Builder does not check the Flash Player version.

To change this Flex Compiler option, complete the following steps:

  • Open the project in Flex Builder and select the Properties menu from the Project menu.
  • Select Flex Compiler in the left pane.
  • Uncheck the Generate HTML wrapper file box.
  • Select OK to save the configuration option.
