Prompts appear out of order in reports containing a prompt on prompted templates in MicroStrategy Developer 9.x and 10.x

SYMPTOM:
When executing a report that prompts on templates, if a user selects a prompted template, the prompts in the template may appear out of order in Strategy Developer 9.x and 10.x.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue in the Strategy Tutorial project:

  • Create an object prompt that selects attributes and call it 'X'.
  • Create an object prompt that selects metrics and call it 'Y'.
  • Create a template with Y in the columns and X in the rows and call it 'T1', as shown below:

  •
NOTE: Add Y to the columns before adding X to the rows.
  • Create a copy of the Report Wizard report and execute it.
  • Make the following selections:

    • Select the T1 template.
    • Select the empty filter.
    • Click Finish.
  • The next screen should show the Y prompt first and then the X prompt, as shown below:

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Developer 9.x and 10.x.

ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.

WORKAROUND:
To workaround this issue, users must add prompts to their template in the order in which they would like them to appear. For this example, users would add prompt X before prompt Y. If the prompts are contained in one object, such as a filter or a metric, then the prompts must be organized in the way they should appear when resolving the template.
