KB15831: Logical tables with no dependencies are not shown after selecting ‘Find unused objects’ in MicroStrategy Administrator - Object Manager

Community Admin

• Strategy

When a user searches for unused objects in MicroStrategy Administrator - Object Manager and selects Logical tables as filter criteria, the tables with no dependencies are not shown.

SYMPTOM:
When a user searches for unused objects in Strategy Administrator - Object Manager 9.x and selects Logical tables as filter criteria, the tables with no dependencies are not shown.

For more information on how to search for unused objects within Strategy Administrator - Object Manager 9.x, refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base Article:
KB14505: How to find unused objects in a project using MicroStrategy Administrator - Object Manager 8.1.x - 9.0.x

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue in the Strategy Tutorial project:

  • Create a new logical table with no references to any object. Name it as 'table_no_dependencies'.
  • Search for dependents and confirm that there is no object associated with it, as shown below:

  • Open Strategy Administrator - Object Manager 9.x and connect to the project.
  • Go to Tools menu and select 'Find unused objects', as shown below:

  • On the Object Types tab, select Logical Table to filter the results, as shown below:
ka04W00000148nMQAQ_0EM440000002FG6.jpeg
  • Notice that no results are shown even if that table is not used by any other object, as shown below:

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Administrator - Object Manager 9.x.

ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.
WORKAROUND:
The user could try a regular search for Logical Tables that does not contain any attribute object. Then try a regular search of dependants on the result set to identify the objects that can be deleted, as shown below:
