KB15986: MicroStrategy Intelligence Server Universal 9.x / 10.x fails to start and load the server definition showing error code 0x80041404 after an upgrade

SYMPTOM:
After upgrading Strategy Intelligence Server Universal 9.x / 10.x from an older version, the user attempts to start and load the server definition and gets the following error message:
 

MSTRExec Error: Exiting with error -1 (0xFFFFFFFF): StartUpManager::StartUpManager(): LoadServerDef failed. Return Code: 0x80041404

 
CAUSE:
This type of error is due to a database connection error. The DSN information for the new server definition is configured incorrectly.
 
ACTION:
All the DSN information for the server definition in Strategy Intelligence Server Universal 8.x is stored in a file named 'odbc.ini' found in the Strategy directory. The following is a sample of this file:

By reconfiguring the DSN information after the upgrade took place, the Strategy Intelligence Server Universal 9.x / 10.x will be able to start normally. In some cases, where the above procedure is not helpful, redefining the entire server definition might be necessary.
