It is possible to programmatically export a document containing default prompt answers to a Microsoft Excel file using the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server SDK 9.x

It is possible to programmatically export a document containing default prompt answers to a Microsoft Excel file using the Strategy Intelligence Server SDK 9.x This code utilizes the M5TYPLIB.dll for COM development (located in the Program Files/Common Files/Strategy folder) on the Windows Environment. To accomplish this, follow the steps below:

  1. Create all the required variables:

    Dim MyProjectList As DSSDataSourceEnumerator
    Dim MySession As IDSSSession
    Dim objSource As IDSSSource
    Dim MyProject As DSSDataSource
    Dim MyDataSource As New DSSDataSource
    Dim MyDocumentDef As IDSSDocumentDefinition3
    Dim MyDocumentInstance As IDSSDocumentInstance3
    Dim objDocResolution As IDSSResolution
    Dim objPrompt As IDSSPrompt
    Dim strDir As String
    Dim strDocId As String
    Dim objDocSrc As IDSSDocumentSource

  2. Login to the project source:

    MyDataSource.AuthMode = DssAuthStandard
    MyDataSource.Type = EnumDSSDataSourceType.DssDataSourceTypeServer
    MyDataSource.Mode = EnumDSSConnectionMode.DssConnectionModeServerAccess
    MyDataSource.Location = DataSourceName
    MyDataSource.login = "Administrator"
    MyDataSource.Passwd = " "
    MyDataSource.Init

  3. Find the project:

    Set MyProjectList = MyDataSource.Enumerator
    Set MyProject = MyProjectList.ItemByProjectName("Strategy Tutorial")
    MyProject.Init

  4. Create the session:

    Set MySession = MyProject.CreateSession
    Set objSource = MySession.Component(DssRoleObjectSource)

  5. Find the document id in the project and initialize the document definition object :

    strDocId = "3CD827FA4353C70DF67356934F52A71E"
    Set MyDocumentDef = objSource.FindObject(strDocId, DssTypeDocumentDefinition)
    Set objDocsrc=MySession.Component(EnumDSSComponentRole.DssRoleDocumentSource)

  6. Create a new document server instance:

    Dim MyDocumentServer As DSSDocumentServer Set MyDocumentServer = MySession.Component(DssRoleDocumentSource)

  7. Obtain the document instance and execute it:

    Set MyDocumentInstance = MyDocumentServer.NewInstance(MyDocumentDef, objDocResolution)
    MyDocumentServer.Execute MyDocumentInstance, EnumDSSDocumentActions.DssDocumentActionExecuteAll, EnumDSSDocumentFlags.DssDocumentExecuteRunAsynch + EnumDSSDocumentFlags.DssDocumentExecuteDefaultAutoprompt

  8. Export the document instance to an excel file using the export engine:

    Dim oExpEng As IDSSExportEngineServer
    Dim abcArray() As Byte
    Set oExpEng = MySession.Component(DssRoleExportEngineServer)

    abcArray() = MyDocumentInstance.ExportDocument(DssExportFormatExcel)
    Dim myFile As String
    myFile = "c:\document.xls"
    Open myFile For Binary As 1
    'open, put, and close the .xls file
    Put #1, 1, abcArray
    Close #1
