The following error occurs when trying to initialize MicroStrategy Office Universal (J2EE):

SYMPTOM:
The following error occurs when trying to initialize Strategy Office Universal (J2EE):

The root element is missing.
 
CAUSE:
Strategy Office Universal (client side) is not configured properly. The Web Services URL is incorrect, and may contain the URL path http://webservername:port#/StrategyWS.
 
ACTION:
To figure out the URL needed to configure Strategy Office Universal (J2EE), follow the steps below:
 

  • Go to the page http://webservername:port#/MicroStrategyWS/.
  • Then click on the Display link circled below. This page should display if everything has been installed properly:

  • Click on the Service Description, circled below:

  • The page below should now display. Copy and paste this URL and put it in the Strategy configuration. It will have syntax similar to <http://webservername:port#/StrategyWS/services/MSTRWSJ?wsdl>

  • In Strategy Office configuration on the client side, paste the link above. Paste the link into the Strategy Office Options -> General -> Web Services -> Web Services URL.

  • Close all open sessions of Microsoft Office. When users initialize Microsoft Office again, users should be able to log into Strategy Office Universal (J2EE) 9.x, 10.x, and 2021.x
