KB16633: Object prompts reappear on a report when clicking 'Re-prompt' after the original static report with object prompts has been modified to add a filter with normal prompts in MicroStrategy

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This article notes how all prompts are shown for a static report that has been modified to contain other prompts

SYMPTOM:

After a user saves a static copy of a report that contains objects prompts and then modifies this copy to add a filter that contains normal prompts, and the objects prompts reappear in the static report after clicking the re-prompt button in Strategy.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue in Strategy Tutorial.

  • Create two object prompts, one for metrics and one for attributes, as shown below:

  • Create a simple filter that prompts on the Year attribute, as shown below:

  • Create a report with the object prompts (created in step 1) and two page-bys, as shown below:
ka02R000000kWLTQA2_0EM440000002VB6.gif
  • Execute the report and save a copy as a static report, as shown below:
  • Edit this static report and add the prompted filter created in step 2, as shown below:
  • Execute the report. Users should only be prompted for the Year filter, as shown below:
  • In grid view, click on the Re-prompt button, as shown below:
  • The static report now has the attribute and metric objects prompts, as shown below:

CAUSE:

This is expected behavior. Static prompts are still internal prompt references and upon addition of other prompts it cannot be assumed that the same answers should be used so all prompts will be asked again.
