KB16781: Prompt resolution in MicroStrategy Integrity Manager

Article outlines how Prompt resolution works in MicroStrategy Integrity Manager

Strategy Integrity Manager follows these steps when it attempts to answer prompts:

  • Any required prompts that have default answers are answered with those defaults.
  • Any optional prompts without default answers are left unanswered.
  • Any required value prompts without default answers are answered with the defaults provided in the Customize Value Prompt Answers page of the Integrity Manager Wizard. (A value prompt is a type of prompt that requires the user to type an entry in a field).

  • Strategy Integrity Manager then uses its internal logic to attempt to answer any other required prompts without default answers. For example, a prompt that requires a certain number of elements to be selected from a list is answered by selecting the first elements from that list.

Since Strategy Integrity Manager is an automated tool, it is not necessarily able to execute all prompted reports since they require some amount of user interaction. Prompts that cannot be answered by Strategy Integrity Manager include:

  • Prompts that cannot be answered at all, such as an element list prompt for which there are no elements to select
  • Level prompts that use the results of a search object to generate a list of possible levels
  • Prompted metric qualifications (used in filters or custom groups)

If a prompt cannot be answered by Strategy Integrity Manager, the report execution fails and the report's status changes to Not Supported. A detailed description of the prompt that could not be answered can be found in the Details tab of the Report Data area for that failed report. To view this description, select the report in the Results summary area and then click the Details tab.
