Article outlines why the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server fails to start with the error 'Error code -2147205286 Error message in DSSerrors: M8SvrEN.dll: Fail to authenticate the licensed feature' after applying a valid evaluation key.

SYMPTOM:
The system administrator cannot start Strategy Intelligence Server after installing the product using a valid evaluation key. The following error message is received:
Failed to start service:
Error code: -2147205286
Error Message: M8SvrEN.dll: Fail to authenticate the licensed feature.
It is also not possible to start the Strategy Intelligence Server as an application. The command prompt window opens and closes immediately.

CAUSE:
The system date is set to a date that is more than 30 days offset from the current date. Evaluation keys expire after 30 days of initial issue. Since the key used during installation gets invalidated because of the system date, Strategy Intelligence Server fails to start and the above error message is displayed.

ACTION:
Correct the system date/time properties on the machine to the current date.
