KB17099: Flash content does not render an email body when viewed with Microsoft Outlook 2007 for MicroStrategy 9.4.x-10.x

This knowledge base article explains why Flash content does not render an email body when viewed with Microsoft Outlook 2007 for MicroStrategy 9.4.x-10.x

SYMPTOM:

Microsoft Office 2007 is supported and certified in the Strategy 9.4.x-10.x product suites. However, Flash content that is part of an email body delivered by Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.4.x-10.x, or Strategy Distribution Services 9.4.x-10.x, does not render in Microsoft Outlook 2007.

CAUSE:

This is a known issue with flash content and Microsoft Outlook 2007. Microsoft Outlook 2007 uses the Microsoft Word 2007 HTML rendering engine to display content. This deviates from Microsoft Outlook 2003 which used the installed version of Internet Explorer's rendering engine.
Due to this change, the Microsoft Word 2007 rendering engine does not support embedded flash, so the email will not properly render it.
For more information on Microsoft's decision to change the HTML rendering engine please see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
Article ID: 933793 - Outlook 2007 uses only Word as the e-mail editor

ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on the status of the issue.

WORKAROUND:

  1. Open the email, go to the message ribbon, select 'Other Actions', then 'View in Browser'.
  2. Send the Flash content as an attached MHT file instead of as part of the email body.
