When the user logs into a 3-tier project source in Strategy Developer using a standard authentication project source, all expected projects are visible, as shown below:

When the user logs into the same 3-tier project source using a database authentication project source, some projects are missing, as shown below:

In some cases, the user may receive the following message:

No projects were returned by this project source.
NOTE: This message can also appear if the user is attempting to log in using database authentication into a project source using an Access database as metadata. See the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note for more information:
KB14872 (KB5700-8X-2256): ‘No projects were returned by this project source’ notification displays when a user logs into a project source in Strategy Desktop 8.x with database authentication
When a user logs into a database authentication project source, the user is first logged into the Strategy Intelligence Server 9.4.x-10.x as the Guest user. This user is not the same as the 'guest' user which may be visible in the User Manager. The Guest user is a special account invisible to the client and inherits the permissions of the Public / Guest group. The Public / Guest group is denied access to all projects by default. In order to see a project, the Public / Guest group needs to be explicitly assigned to a security role for that project.
For more information about database authentication and the special Guest user account, refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base articles:
A security role should be assigned to the Public/Guest group for every project the user wishes to be accessible using database authentication. Instructions how to add or remove users/groups to a security role for a project can be found in the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note:
KB14002 (KB5700-801-2017): How to deny access to a Strategy project to a user or user group in Strategy Desktop 8.0.1
Administrators may wish to create a new security role with no permissions granted to use in allowing project access to the Public/Guest group.
All users logging into a database authentication project source will be able to see all projects visible to the Guest user. Project access is granted or denied for each individual user only when the user attempts to log into the project.
