KB17243: How to use MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server 9.x to generate MicroStrategy Command Manager 9.x scripts which contain a dynamic date

Community Admin

• Strategy

Strategy Command Manager 9.x does not have the ability to generate and use dynamic dates in a script (.scp). However, with the use of Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x, a .scp file can be generated that contains today's date. Follow the steps below:

  • In Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x, create a new device. The file location for this device should be the location of the batch file that will be used to run the Strategy Command Manager 9.x script. Set the device to overwrite files with the same name so that a new script will be created each day.
  • Create a new service in Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x. Configure this service for file delivery. Create a plaintext document with the service.
  • Add the desired command manager script to the plaintext service. In the position for a date select Insert > System Information > Service execution date. The plaintext file should look like this:
ka04W000000OgnxQAC_0EM440000002BPv.jpeg
  • The file name of the output file will need to be changed. It will need to have a .scp extension. This can be achieved by using an execution control document with the syntax SaveDocumentAs = '<document name>.txt = <document_name>.scp'
  • Select the device from the supported devices, as illustrated below:

  • Add a subscription set and recipient. Add a schedule that will execute for each desired time increment i.e. daily.
  • The .scp file can now be used in a batch file to automate the execution of the batch file. Refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note for more information:
