KB17269: Users are prompted for a username and password for each report when running a series of reports in MicroStrategy Office 9.x

This technical note describes an issue in MicroStrategy Office 9.x where users are prompted for a username and password for each report when running a series of reports. This expected behavior is due to the "Persist Login ID" setting in the MicroStrategy Office 9.x Configuration.

SYMPTOM:
A user is prompted for a user name and password for each report when running a series of reports in Strategy Office 9.x.
CAUSE:
There is a setting in the Strategy Office 9.x Configuration under Security called 'Persist Login ID'. If this option is checked, when each report is added, the adder's user ID is associated with the report and stored.
If the ID of the user that is logged into Strategy Office 9.x is the same as the ID on the reports, then the user should only need to login once and the ID is persisted for each report in the presentation or workbook.
If the ID of the user that is logged in does NOT match the ID on the reports, the user will be asked to authenticate for each report that has unmatched IDs.
ACTION:
The user should un-check the 'Persist Login ID' option under Office Configuration - Security. When this is unchecked, the user ID does not get associated with the report when it is added, and no matching is made when another Strategy Office user logs in and tries to refresh the reports. The user should only need to log in once and no further prompting occurs.
