This knowledge base article describe the error message 'Specified object id: <object id> does not exist in the repository’ that appears when using the 'Upgrade Narrowcast Server System' tool to upgrade a MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server 9.x object repository

SYMPTOM:
When users upgrade a Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x object repository using the Upgrade Narrowcast Server System tool, the tool does not upgrade the repository, rolls back any changes made, and it shows the following error message:

Sample code/error:

Specified object id: <object id> does not exist in the repository

CAUSE:
This is due to the fact that a specific object should exist in the repository but is not present anymore. Most likely this is an out-of-the-box object that could have been accidentally deleted from the repository.

ACTION:
If this object is an out-of-the box object, it can be imported from another existing Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x repository. Run the following query to verify if the missing out-of-the-box object is still available in another repository from a different environment:

select * from MSTROBJNAMES where MR_OBJECT_ID='<object id>'

In this case, the resultant MR_OBJECT_NAME description will indicate the type of object missing. This object can then be exported using the XML Object Exporter utility (MCXMLExp.exe) found under /Program Files/MicroStrategy/Narrowcast Server/Delivery Engine/Utilities. For more information about the Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x Object Repository Export Tool, refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note:

KB5271 (KB6200-7X0-0048): What is the Strategy Narrowcast Server Object Repository Export Tool?

When using this tool, after specifying the DSN connection information for the Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x repository which still has the object, and a name for the output file; a specific object can be selected to be exported. Select the appropriate object and click on the 'Export Objects' button.

Note: Before importing the missing object, it is strongly recommended to create a backup of the object repository, subscription book repository and portal repository by Copy Repository Tool. For more information on how to use Copy Repository Tool, refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note:

KB12409 (KB6200-801-1318): Copy Repository functionality in Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x

Finally, this output file will become the input to the XML Object Repository Import Tool (MCXMLIpt.exe) found under /Program Files/MicroStrategy/Narrowcast Server/Delivery Engine/Utilities.

Specify the file information of the Export tool output, and the DSN for the Strategy Narrowcast Server 8.x Repository which is lacking this object. Click on the 'Import Repository Objects' button.

After performing this procedure, the object will be present again in the destination Strategy Narrowcast Server 8.x object repository and the Upgrade Narrowcast Server System tool should successfully upgrade the repository.

Note: This procedure will only work for missing out-of-the-box objects. For any other cases not discussed in this technical note, contact Strategy Technical Support.
