KB17441: When specifying a relative filepath for the HTML document directory in MicroStrategy Developer, newly-created HTML documents appear in the parent directory of the filepath specified

SYMPTOM:
When a relative filepath is specified for the HTML document directory under Project Configuration -> 'Advanced', in Strategy Desktop, newly-created HTML documents are saved to the parent folder of the file path specified.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue:

  • In Strategy Developer, right-click on a project and select Project Configuration, as shown below:

  • Under Project definition, select Advanced, as shown below:

  • Under HTML document directory, specify a relative filepath, such as ..\My HTML Folder.
NOTE: Make sure the directory you specify exists before clicking OK.

  • Click OK.
  • Create a new HTML document by right-clicking in white space in a folder location inside Strategy Desktop and selecting New'HTML Document, as shown below:

  • Edit the new HTML document and then click Save and Close, as shown below:

  • When prompted, save the HTML document where desired. This is the save location within your Strategy Desktop folders, as shown below;
ka02R000000kXGbQAM_0EM440000002F0I.jpeg
  • In Windows Explorer, navigate to the default HTML document directory specified in step 3. Notice that the directory is empty and does not contain the new HTML document we just created in steps 5-7., as shown below:
ka02R000000kXGbQAM_0EM440000002F0J.jpeg
  • Move up one directory to the parent folder, and notice that the new HTML document has been created in the parent directory, as shown below:

CAUSE:
This is a known issue with Strategy Developer 9.x and 10.x.

ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for the status of this issue.

WORKAROUND:
If a relative filepath must be used, the user can add a slash (\) to the end of the relative filepath specification for the HTML document directory, such as:

..\Tutorial Reporting\
Or, the user can specify an absolute filepath for the HTML document directory, such as:

C:\Program Files\MicroStrategy\Tutorial Reporting
Newly-created HTML documents will then be saved in the correct location using either of these methods.
