KB17531: How to customize the text on the logout page in MicroStrategy Web

Article outlines how to customize the text on the logout page in MicroStrategy Web

By default, when logging out of Strategy Web, users see the following screen and text:

ka04W000000OeS4QAK_0EM4400000028er.jpeg

Logged out
Thank you for using Strategy Web. You have been logged out.
To log in to this site again, click below.
In order to customize this text, follow the instructions below:

  • The three text sentences come from the Strategy MessageBundle.properties file.

Located in the "Web ASPx\WEB-INF\classes\resources" folder, the user may notice that there quite a few MessagesBundle.properties files, with the following structure:

    MessagesBundle_<language code>.properties
  • This architecture allows for Strategy Web to leverage multi-lingual support by having a message bundle for each language as specified in the Web Preferences.

The logout sentences come from the MessagesBundle.properties file, under three event names:

mstrWeb.413=Thank you for using Strategy Web.

    mstrWeb.414=You have been logged out.

mstrWeb.415=To log in to this site again, click below.

  • As these message bundle events may be used in multiple places across the entire Web architecture, rather than edit the existing events, it is often safer to create a new one at the bottom of the message bundle file.

Edit the appropriate MessagesBundle_<language code>.properties file and add up to three new events at the bottom. In this example, the events 'ScottWeb.1', 'ScottWeb.2' and 'ScottWeb.3' have been added, as shown below:

ka04W000000OeS4QAK_0EM4400000028et.jpeg
  • Now that the events exist, locate the layout file for the logout screen, appropriately named 'LogoutLayout.xml'. This file is called to create the objects on the logout page.

Replace any desired existing events, mstrWeb.413, mstrWeb.414 and mstrWeb.415 with your customized event code created in step 2. For this example, I have made the following substitution:

  • After restarting the web server, the changes made in steps 2 and 3 have taken effect, as shown below:

The steps described in this technote are general. As many or as few of the three events discussed may be used to accommodate the end users customization requirements.
