This Knowledge Base article describes a non-issue in Narrowcast Service service failure that can occur due a password change in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server Metadata

SYMPTOM
A Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.4.x - 10.x service fails with the following error message in the DELog file:


Segment failed because an information source failed to initialize: 
IMSTRInformationSource.OpenInformationSource for InfoSourceID failed because -2147204465 : 
Connection failed because remote machine is down

CAUSE:
This error can be caused by a change of password for the 'Login ID' user, specified in the Information Source configuration, in the Strategy Intelligence Server 9.4.x - 10.x Metadata:

ACTION
Whenever there is a password change for the 'Login ID' user in the Strategy Intelligence Server 9.4.x - 10.x Metadata, this password needs to be updated in the associated Information Sources via the Information Source Wizard in Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.4.x - 10.x, as shown below:
