KB18161: Changes made to the column alias of a Freeform SQL report attribute are lost after saving and closing the report if the attribute is removed from the grid in MicroStrategy Developer 9.x and 10.x

SYMPTOM:
The changes made to the column alias of a Freeform SQL report attribute are lost after saving and closing the report if the attribute is removed from the grid in Strategy Developer 9.x and 10.x.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce the issue in the Strategy Tutorial project:

  1. Create a new Freeform SQL report in the Strategy Tutorial project with two attributes and one metric (any SQL will work, e.g. select * from LU_REGION).
  2. Execute the report.
  3. Save and close the report.
  4. Execute the report.
  5. Change the column alias of one of the attributes.
  6. Remove that attribute from the grid and put it in the Report Objects window.
  7. Save and close the report.
  8. Re-execute the report, the change previously made to the column alias of the attribute will be lost.

Note that if the user does not close the report in step three and simply executes the report and saves it when prompted to do so, the column alias change will NOT be lost. However, once the report is closed, any further column alias name changes will be lost.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Developer 9.x and 10.x.

ACTION:
