This article notes a limitation for use of SAP cubes in MicroStrategy

SYMPTOM
While attempting to import or view the structure of an SAP BW cube in Strategy, the following error appears:

ka04W000000OagPQAS_0EM440000002Eyu.gif

Unexpected Error.
Error in accessing information from the external data source (Database Instance: SAP BW 2004S, Error: XDACatalog Dimensions failed. MDX Catalog read failed. Error type: JCO layer error. JCOCatalog.fetchDimensions failed. java.lang.Exception: Error during fetching Dimensions
Error during Bapi Execution: The query cannot be released for OLE DB for OLAP
at com.Strategy.Database.JCO.JCOCatalog.fetchDimensions(JCOCatalog.java:356)
at com.Strategy.Database.JCO.JCOCatalog.fetchDimensions(JCOCatalog.java:328)
. Connection String: N/A;.)

The error message occurs even if the 'Allow external access to this query' option is enabled in the query cube properties dialog box in the SAP Business Explorer Query Designer. (If this option is disabled, the query cube will not appear in the list of available cubes in the Strategy OLAP Cube Catalog.)

CAUSE
The use of certain SAP BW internal functions within any of the cube's key figures (including calculated key figures) makes the query invalid for MDX use, due to a limitation within SAP BW.

This limitation is documented in SAP Note 820925. SAP states here that the affected functions cannot be evaluated in the context of an MDX query; therefore SAP prevents any query access, including reading the structure of the cube. Even if Strategy were permitted to read the cube's structure, report execution queries would fail for the same reason.

If your Formula or Calculated Key Figures have following operators: %RT, %GT, %CT, %XT, SUMRT, SUMXT, SUMYT, and LEAF then they are not supported in MDX. These operators make use of Special List Geometry which is only available for BEX Analyzer.(-> BRAIN 136, Operator LEAF , -> BRAIN 136)

ACTION
The function references must be removed from the cube on the SAP BW side. Strategy analytical functions, in derived metrics or OLAP Cube compound metrics, may be used to further process the raw query results, which in some cases could substitute for the native SAP BW calculations.
